DNS Lookup
Query A, AAAA, MX, TXT, NS, CNAME, SOA and CAA records.
Look up domain registration, ownership and expiry.
Since GDPR took effect in 2018, registries and registrars redact personal data from public Whois for most domains. You will typically see the registrar, dates, nameservers and status codes, but contact details are replaced with a privacy service or removed entirely.
They are EPP status codes describing what operations the domain currently permits. clientTransferProhibited is a normal registrar lock against unauthorised transfers. Codes beginning "pending" or "redemption" indicate a domain moving through expiry, which is worth noticing before it lapses.
Some registries, notably several country-code TLDs, do not run a public Whois server on port 43, or rate-limit it aggressively. The tool follows one referral from IANA to the authoritative server; if that server declines, there is no result to show.
